The basic and fundamental doctrine and faith of The Oil Church are biblical standards of holiness and full salvation – which is repentance, baptism in water by full immersion in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

God

We believe there is only one, true and living God who eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe He is the creator of the heavens, the earth and all mankind; and rules supremely over all. We believe God is all-powerful, all-knowing and ever present.

Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:27; Isaiah 46:9-10; Jeremiah 10:10; 1 Timothy 2:5

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ being the promised Messiah took on human form yet was fully God, was conceived by the Holy Ghost, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, rose from the dead, ascended on the right hand of God the Father, lives forever to make intercession for believers and will return again.

Matthew 1:18-23; Matthew 27:35; Mark 16:19; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:22

Holy Ghost

We believe the Holy Ghost is the third person of the Deity.  He endows man with spiritual gifts, serves as a witness to us, controls the sinful nature of those in whom He dwells, sets the believer apart to a holy life and is the Spirit of truth.

John 14:17, 26; 1 Corinthians 12; Hebrews 10:15

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction. We believe the Bible is the foundational standard of faith and is inerrant and infallible in the original manuscripts. We believe the Bible is authoritative and applicable to all.

2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21

Holiness

We believe God has called us to live a life of holiness; that we should put on the new self created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Leviticus 11:44; 2 Corinthians 7:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:7

Sin

We believe sin is the act of violating God’s commands. We believe all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; and that sin separates us from God and His will for our lives.

Isaiah 59:2; Romans 3:23; 1 John 3:4

Repentance

We believe repentance is the changing of one’s mind about sin and, with godly sorry, is the initial step to salvation.

Matthew 4:17; Acts 17:30; 2 Corinthians 7:10

Water Baptism

We believe through baptism, by immersion, we are buried with Him so that just as Christ was raised from the dead we may also live a new life; for through baptism we are saved.

John 3:5; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-7; 1 Peter 3:21

Baptism of the Holy Ghost

We believe the baptism of the Holy Ghost is evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives the ability. We believe through the baptism of the Holy Ghost all believers who receive the indwelling are empowered in effectively witnessing in the world with power.

Isaiah 28:11; Acts 1:4-5,8; Acts 2:4

Salvation

We believe salvation is the forgiveness of sin and reconciliation to God by grace. We believe by the way of the cross, Jesus Christ provided salvation for all to receive.

Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Thessalonians 5:9; Titus 2:11

Holy Communion

We believe Holy Communion (also called the Lord’s Supper) consisting of bread and fruit of the vine, is a time to remember Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and is enjoined on all believers until His return.

John 13:1-17; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34
